TOPIC: Shed/ Chicken coop

Shed/ Chicken coop 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I’m planning on building a 10x12 shed with a chicken coop internal to it. I live in Michigan and I'm wondering what type of ground preparation i need to do below the piers? Everything that i have read just says place them on the ground and build upwards. I can’t believe that this is a safe and long term solution for a quality level construction - or is it?

With a shed this size i really cant see every couple of years needing to re-level the shed to “keep the eggs from rolling out the door”.

Thanks

Eggs rolling out the door? I think this is the first time anyone has brought that concern up.

It looks like what you have read is correct and that you do not need to do any ground preparation for the blocks. If you would like you can put some gravel under the piers.

Yes. this is a safe long term solution for quality level construction. You will not need to level the blocks every couple of years. The frost will push the shed up in the winter and it will come back down in the spring but it will always stay level.

When you build make sure to do a couple of things. Follow our plans. The few times there have been problems with the blocks is when people do not follow the plans and instructions. The other thing you will need to do is get a building permit or at least check to see if you need one.
