90 Deg Turn on Dek Block? 3 Years, 7 Months ago
I will be building a shed floor for a small 8' x 3' Arrow shed. All the examples of Dek Block decks I see show the joists running straight through the Dek Block. I was wondering if I can put a Dek Block in the corner of the shed floor where the joist and cross member would come together in the middle of the Dek Block? In other words the Dek Block would be right on the corner versus the small overhang in the examples. Would this place an uneven force on the Dek Block and is not advised?

Also I will be using 2 x 4 PT and slightly bury the Dek Block (I live in southern Texas so no frost concerns) to keep the overall height down to make my homeowners assoc happy. If I use two 8' 2x4 joist and use 4 dek blocks on each joist I should be fine right? The joists would be 40" apart. Is this span too far? If I put cross member 12" OC I would think that is enough for a small shed.

Thanks for your help

In our system, the support rows (joists) are supported individually, so you will want the support boards to overhang so the get the full support of the Dek-Block pier beneath it.

I know you are building only a small shed, but please keep in mind that 2x4 is not able to bear the same kinds of load that a 2x6 can. If you choose to use 2x4 treated lumber for your supports, you will then need to space your blocks every 36" along the 2x4 support board (instead of every 5 ft). Though, we only recommend this if you absolutely NEED to. The lifetime of a deck using 2x4 supports is significantly less than one with 2x6 supports.

You will not want the Dek-Block spacing between support rows to exceed 30" on center for 2x6 pressure treated and 24" for regular plywood.

We offer shed floor plans on this website, for you to reference.
Good luck

Thanks. Maybe I will use three 2x4 joists. Seems like it may be a little overkill. I saw your shed floor plans but all are sizes bigger than I need. I need a shed floor that is 97" x 42". Just a bit too deep for only two joints along the long axis I guess? In that case then I can use three 2x4 joists with 3 dek blocks on each. With a little overhang on each end of the 97" that means less than 32 in between dek blocks.
