TOPIC: Pool Deck

Pool Deck 5 Years, 9 Months ago
I'm interested in building a deck for an above ground pool but I am concerned about tucking the top boards beneath the top rail of the pool. I live in northern New-York and I am wondering if the frost heave might push the top rail off of the pool.

Your above ground pool is going to move up and down, just as much or little as your deck does. That is the beauty of our floating foundation deck system built around an above ground pool.

Below is a link filled with valuable information regarding pool decks. Click on "general questions" for pros and cons to building above or below the pool's coping.

Good luck with your project,

I built my deck in UpState NY 5 Years, 9 Months ago
Hi Jim,

My deck boards run under the coping and I have had no problems with the deck using the Dek-Block. On the Pool Deck Forum under "will frost push up blocks?", I left a post with pictures of the deck winter and Summer. You can see that the coping is fine. To be honest I could not see any difference from under the pool coping during the winter months.

We get a lot of snow in Upstate NY. Therefore, when I tell you these blocks work great...trust me. The Deck had been up since May 2003.

Here is a look of the deck boards under the coping.

Space under the coping duing the winter.

Looking under the deck boards below the coping late December.

Early Fall late September.

Hope these photos help you with your question. You can see more photos at www.hemmingsjones.com/decks
