building around trees 1 Year, 9 Months ago  
We have a fairly large planting bed surrounding a couple large trees. It is filled with ivy and we'd like to build a deck in its place. Are there any special steps we need to take to build around the trees? I'd also like to have some posts tall enough to hang a porch swing. Not sure how to accomplish that. Any suggestions?

For building around trees the trick is to make sure the ends of the deck boards are supported. This is done by building frames around the trees. Its a build as you go process.

For the swing you will need to put posts in the ground that extend through the deck but do not touch the deck. This is only way to ensure the swing will be safe.
