Hi, I am planning on building a rectangular deck. I am able to get some 4x4 at the perfect size I need for the support boards length wise. Will these be able to support the loading on the decking boards okay instead of using 2x6.
Now instead of using the typical 2x6 that you mention can you use 2x8 instead. I'm sure you can but I just want to make sure. I know it is not really needed but... I feel much safer as you can never tell how many people will be on the deck. Oh and it will only be approximately 54" high
Yes you can use 2x8 lumber instead of 2x6. Its never a problem to add more strength to the decks. You can build a deck at a height of 54" but you will need to use diagonal bracing.
