Slight variation in height block to block 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Hello,

I'm still in the planning stages of building a "ground level" 16' x 8' deck using the Dek-blocks. I plan on clearing the grass from the area, maybe removing between 1 to 3 inches(?) of the grass and top soil to achieve the 6 to 7 inch step height into the house, based on a 13" overall deck height. It's clear to me how to level from block to block if I had variations of several inches, but my area seems pretty level, although I know it won't be between blocks. I would like to know how to compensate for variations that might be as little as 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 inches, etc. from block to block? Would I cut a 1/4" piece of 4x4 or some other material to achieve this? Thanks for your input.

Yep, I think youd want to still level out with slim cuts of 4x4's that you could either nail or not.

You will need to add thin 4x4 posts. If they are under and inch thick then they do not need to be screwed. At an inch think they might split when screwed. Another option is to cut thin strips of 2x material and use it as shims.

Thanks guys. Makes sense to me and sounds like the right way to do it. Sounds even easier now too.

could you not just dig the block down into the earth that 1/2 inch to 1 inch or add a patio block under the Deck block to get it to proper hight instead of messing with 4x4's? My areas been dug up by the dogs so I can see hitting one of these holes along the way.
