TOPIC: Hiding Dek Blocks

The directions in the step building section said to add a 2x4 facia board to the bottom of your deck frame (2x6). However, wouldn't it be easier to use 2x10 instead to frame you deck with and thus avoiding this extra step? This is what I was planning on doing, but thought I'd check and see if there is there a technical reason this shouldn't be done, or are the directions more for aesthetic purposes only, so that all boards used are the same. In areas where box steps are going, I wouldn't think it'd matter as the steps would disguise the boards anyway.

You could use a 2x10. It would look a little weird from the sides. You might want to do all the visible sides with 2x10.
