TOPIC: Deck Rocks
#6141
Deck Rocks 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
My deck is up and has dried now for almost two weeks. There are a few issues.
1. It rocks. You walk across it from one side to the other and it bounces. Can this be resolved with putting some shims under between the 4x4 and joist? Or should I just cut a new 4x4 with the added height.

2. The final deck board is not flush with the face board. The overhang changes as it goes along from 1.5" to up to 3". I need to add a rail to this side. Should I cut the deck board flush to the face board and use a router to put the edge on it? Then go ahead with the railings?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Please submit pictures of your deck so I can see how the deck was built. Your deck should not rock.

Cut the overhanging board to fit. Before you put the handrail on make sure the deck is solid and does not rock.
