TOPIC: question about the first row closest to house
#6094
question about the first row closest to house 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
in the how-to manual - it shows that one of the dek-block had 4x4 and the other one did not.

Is that correct? My backyard has a medium slope and I will have to use the 4x4 in all the other 30 dek-blocks.

Since the deck will be floating right next to the house under a door - I should measure the first 2 4x4 to be 1 inch below the door threshold and go from there?

I'm trying to make sense on how to start with the first 2 4x4 before building out.

Thanks!

Every backyard is different. If you are building on a very flat yard then you might not need 4x4 posts at all.

to get the height of the first block You will need to measure to your threshold (from the pocket of the block) and subtract out 1/2 to 1 inch for the distance below the threshold. Then subtract the thickness of your decking. Then subtract the thickness of your support board. what is left will be the length of you 4x4 post.
