Securing 2x6's to 4x4's 5 Years, 9 Months ago  
In the how to it says to attach supports to 4x4 by toe screwing...could you not just screw 3 or 4 3 1/2 inch screws in the 4x4 at the level locations instead of toe screwing?

Your best connection is going to be to toenail (toescrew) those 2x's to the top of the 4x4's. This is not the only way to do it, but certainly tried and tested as the best way to do it.

Deckman has built more decks than I have and I'm sure he knows what he's talking about. I used the following bracket (DJT14Z) to join my 2x6 framing to the 4x4 posts. I haven't had any problems with them. The brackets will probably be seen when the deck is complete whereas the toe-screws will not. Just a suggestion.
