TOPIC: 45 degree surface
#177
45 degree surface 5 Years, 9 Months ago
On a 20' wide x 18' deep, If I want a 45 degree angle on the surface boards, where do I start? At a corner, either top right or top left and then work down & across or how/where?

To turn the decking to a 45 degree angle, some modifications to the framing need to be made. Here a link for you.

I have that.

What i'm asking, and pardon me if it sounds like a "stupid" question, is at what point on the framing/joists do I start laying the deck boards?

I understand the modification. I need to know where to start the 1st deck board. Do I start with the shortest diagonal piece on a corner and work all the way down & across the framing OR do I start with the longest span and work off that?

It is not "stupid" at all, I would start with your longest board(s) and work your way out in both directions. It will make it easier to keep the proper angle.
